I like to tailor the workshops I do to fit the needs of the hostess. I have had success doing make and takes, where customers pay $5 to cover the cost of supplies, and they make 4 cards to take home. By doing a make and take type of session, customers have the opportunity to try merchandise, experiment with different techniques all while chatting with friends and family.
I have also had some clients who want to have a book party. That works well if you know people who are interested, but they do not have time to come to a workshop.
Finally, customers can always place individual orders, outside of a party. You don't have to wait for a Stampin' Up! get together to purchase merchandise. Just give me a call, or send and email and I can place orders for you anytime.
