NC Demos Blog Hop - New Annual Catalog with "Thoughtful Banners" and Sweet Sugarplum

Thoughful Banners with Sweet Sugarplum

Welcome to the May NC Demos Blog Hop! You should have come from Michelle Irinyi's

The theme for this months Hop, is anything in the New Stampin' Up! Annual catalog which goes live on June 1st. This is my second post sharing products from the new catalog as I've been focusing on retiring items up until this past Friday. I love the cards from yesterday. They also feature the Thoughtful Banners stamp set but they also showcase ALL the NEW InColors. Scroll down or click HERE to see that post.

The Thoughtful Banners Stamp Set was one of the sets available for demonstrators to preorder and while I liked it when I ordered it, I have to say that I only fell in love with it once I started playing. OMG, there are so many words to play with in this set and while there are only a few images (other than words) they have been a blast to play with as well.

The color scheme is Rich Razzleberry, Pink Pirouette and one of the new InColors, Sweet Sugarplum. The card just feels happy to me even though the colors are somewhat dusty and muted. I love this color combination especially with the little touch of black.

Most of the word images were stamped in Rich Razzleberry ink with the exception of "celebrate" (stamped in Sweet Sugarplum) and the images on the banner (stamped in Archival Black). When I use a small amount of a color on a card, in this case black, I usually like a touch of the same color somewhere else on the card. I think it really helps to tie the composition together.

The "bar" image is stamped multiple times in Sweet Sugarplum ink with 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation ink. I stamped these images so the depths of ink color were varied throughout. I wanted there to be contrast and variety to weight of these images. This close up shows the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation ink better.

The final element that I think makes this card interesting is the use of the itty bitty triangles and arrows. They are small accents but offer a lot of movement to the card, almost moving your eye from top to bottom as you read the words.

To use the concept of, Visual Weight, the top of the card is lighter weight and the bottom is heavier weight, sort of "grounding" the card. The main message, "celebrate, celebrate, celebrate sweet friend" is emphasized by the abundance of the Rich Razzleberry triangels toward the bottom and the Sweet Sugarplum arrows pointing to "Sweet Friend". For more about the concept of Visual Weight check out my YouTube video HERE.

Incidentally, this was one of the projects we made at my last team meeting and while it was a bit challenging to get the placement of the bars, everyone's turned out great! Each were fun and unique, which is really the way stamping should be anyway!

I hope you enjoyed this project. Please consider following me on Pinterest and/or check out my YouTube Channel. I'm new to making videos so I just have a handful of videos but I hope you'll check them out. I'm having fun learning and sharing on YouTube. Please let me know if you have any questions. I am here to help!
