NC Demos February Blog Hop

Todays post features the Oh So Succulent Stamp Set, presented for the NC Demos Blog Hop for February. If this is not your first stop I hope you've been enjoying all the fun projects my fellow demos have shared. If this is your first stop... then Welcome! The theme this month is Springtime.

There are 30, (that's not a typo), 30 stamps in the Oh So Succulent Stamp Set! A good number of these stamps are designed to do Two Step Stamping, which essentially means you stamp one image over another to create the finished look. The three flowers and green foliage are all done with this method of Two Step Stamping. It gives the images a more realistic, 3-D look don't you think?

The colors used here are Calypso Coral, Mint Macaron, Old Olive, Sweet Sugarplum and Tip Top Taupe. For the first four colors I have used second ink for the solid lighter image, and first ink for the darker, line drawn image over the top. If you're not familiar with this method, it's really an essential technique that every paper crafter should know and it's so simple!

First ink is essentially the ink that comes off the stamp after you first ink it up and stamp it on your surface. If you don't ink up your stamp again, you end up with some residual ink on the stamp. That is your "second Ink" and of course is always lighter when you stamp. This is a super simple way to get a lighter shade of the same color! Plus you can keep stamping for third, fourth and fifth inking to get lighter and lighter shades of the same color. Cool right?

I have accented three of the stamped flowers with pearls and used three little pearls in the lower right hand corner of the Sweet Sugarplum layer. In each pack of Pearl Jewels you get three rows of pearls that come attached as a strip. I sniped off a set of three, picked up the trio as a set, using my paper piercing tool and placed them where I wanted them. Leaving them attached as a trio makes placement a bit easier than placing them individually.

So, in this second card there is only one element I have changed but still wanted to share it with you. Can you see what it is?... I have used the Whisper White Succulent Garden ribbon instead of the Sweet Sugarplum ribbon. These two ribbons come in a combo pack and are part of the Succulent Garden product suite in the Occasions Catalog. It's very soft ribbon that sort of has the feel of flannel.

On both of these cards I have used Stampin' Dimensionals behind the focal piece. Last but not least, the Triple Banner Punch was used to create the Old Olive banner. If you cut this strip at a length of 5-1/2" and push it all the way into your Tripple Banner punch, it will end up at the perfect length for the front of this card, as shown.

I should also tell you that the Succulent Garden Stamp Set has a coordinating set of framelits to go with it. Plus these two items can be purchased as a bundle at a 10% discount! A complete supply list is included ahead!

By the way, this was one of the projects made this past Friday night as one of the Make n' Takes, at my Stampin' Style Bingo Event. We had so much fun at this event! I also made some cute "pillow gifts" for all that attended in coordinating designs. My pillow gifts were inspired by my fellow demonstrator, Jo Anne Hewins, who always has wonderful, fun projects to share! I'll be sharing my pillow gifts in a blog post soon!
