Color Fusers Blog Hop: September 2017

Welcome to the Color Fusers Blog Hop for September! When I first saw this color scheme I immediately thought I'd design a card with fall leaves. Well, I actually went in a completely different direction and really love the results.

I was a little worrried that it would be difficult to use all these colors but it was really pretty easy. I made two different version of this card. For both cards I used an Aqua Painter with reinkers to watercolor this beautiful image from the Bright Wishes Stamp Set. For the focal piece on this first one I used Very Vanilla Cardstock. This cardstock is not quite as easy to work with as watercolor paper, when watercoloring, but I think it worked pretty well in the end.

Here are a few details about this version:

  • I distressed and roughed up the edges of the Vanilla focal piece and the Early Espresso backing to give it a weathered sort of look.
  • I sponged the edge of the card base with Old Olive Ink
  • For the stones that make up the base of the wishing well, I mixed some Early Espresso and Calypso Coral ink. It just seemed like the base should be a different color than the top but I didn't have what seemed like a suitable color in the color challenge.
Here's a close up:

The focal piece for this next version was made using Watercolor Paper. It's sort of an off white color, sort of between Vanilla and White. It is the perfect paper for watercoloring though so I had to try it! This also gave me an opportunity to do the coloring a bit differently from the first card.

As you can see, for this version I used Early Espresso for both the base and top structure for the Wishing Well (instead of mixing colors as I did on the first version). I just tried to use variations in the depth of color to make it look realistic. The colors are brighter in this version. This is largely because the watercolor paper allowed me to play more and add more color, since it can handle more water than regular Very Vanilla cardstock. While I like elements of both cards I think this second card is my favorite of the two. Which do you prefer?

A complete supply list for these cards is included ahead. I hope you like my cards today and are enjoying the Color Fusers Blog Hop so far. I'm sure my teammates have some amazing projects to share! I hope you'll check them all out! There's a complete supply list ahead.

Beautiful! I love the coloring you did on this card and the added touch of sponging around the edges of the card is the perfect addition! Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Heather
