Team Make n' Take #2 for July Gathering

Have you played with the Embossing Paste and Pattern Party Decorative Masks by Stampin' Up!? Well, at my July team gathering this was one of our Make n' Takes and it was so much fun to see how everyones projects turned out. I did a Facebook Live Video for my Team Facebook Page so those who weren't able to attend could learn what we did as well. We've been doing this at every gathering because I hate to see anyone get left out! To learn more about Joining my Team click HERE.

Here are two of the versions I made. This was also a design I used for a WOW Card Swap I recently participated in.

The colors used on these cards are Lemon Lime Twist, Dapper Denim and Emerald Envy. The card below is a close up the one on the left above. Each project turns out different so I thought it would be fun to show you some close ups.

This next close up the one on the right shown above. I added a little Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to the paste before it dried and used some Silver Glimmer Paper behind the Basic Black layer. I do like my bling! In this close up you can also see that I used the new Garden Trellis Embossing Folder for the front of the card.

So in case you are wondering... here are a few details about the basic process I used for these cards:

  1. Put some water in a container that is big enough to fit the mask your using. It's important that you can immersed the mask in the water.
  2. First I did a Watercolor Wash on a piece of Watercolor Paper using the colors mentioned above.
  3. I dried my paper with my heat tool and then positioned my mask over the Watercolor Paper. I held the mask down in two places with Washi Tape.
  4. Next I put three little dollops of paste on a paper plate and put a drop of ink in each dollop of paste (one color per dollop).
  5. Using my Palette Knife I mixed the ink into the paste just until there was no liquid ink left
  6. I then spread the colored Paste over the mask, to fill the openings in the mask. You choose which areas you want to cover. (For each color I covered approximately 1/3 of the cardstock.)
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 with the two remaining colors.
  8. Remove the mask and immediately immerse it in water and wash off the paste. The quicker you get the paste off the less likely you mask will have residue stuck to it. Never fear, the mask will still work when it is stained, it just doesn't look pretty.
Important Note: The paste dries pretty quickly so you will need to complete these steps quickly especially if you want to add glitter to the paste at the end.

This next version was actually one of my first color schemes for this card. For the Watercolor Wash I used Cherry Cobbler, Tangerine Tango and Daffodil Delight. I used the same colors for the ink droplets in the paste and I applied Dazzling Diamonds Glitter before the paste dried.

So, I absolutely love this next version! For my Watercolor Wash on this one I used Elegant Eggplant, Dapper Denim and Emerald Envy. For the ink dropplets in my paste I used Lemon Lime Twist, Dapper Denim and Emerald Envy. I just adore this color combo!

Check out my pile of lovely creations. I love how they all look together! I've been giving these to customers as a little Thank You when they place an order with me. My newsletter subscribers got first dibs on these but now I'm offering them to anyone who places an Online Order. I only have a few left and they are available only while supplies last!

Color Smoosh Technique With Delightful Daisy Suite

This pair of projects was made using the Daisy Delight Stamp Set, Daisy Punch and the Pick A Pattern Designer Series Paper. Can you believe the background on these projects is made with the same technique? Well surprisingly, they are. The technique is most often called the Ink Smoosh technique. This technique is so much fun because the result is a bit of a surprise each time you do it!

When doing this technique you basically rub ink pads, various colors, on a craft mat or other non- porous surface. You then use a spray bottle and spray water till the ink beads up. You place your cardstock facedown on the ink, press or tap and lift up your paper to see what you get. You can repeat this process without adding any more ink or water with another piece of cardstock. The background below was achieved with the first press on the watery ink.

In the close up below you can really see the lovely texture of the watering ink plus the Clear Faceted Gem in the middle of the flower. There are two daisies layered on top of each other and they are sponged on the edge with Dapper Denim Ink.

The background for the second project, the photo below, was from the second pressing on the watery ink. You can continue pressing pieces of cardstock on the inky surface as desired. Each pressing will give a unique result.

The texture of this second background is so fun and different from the first one. I love them both! Which one do you prefer? Please leave a comment here on my blog and let me know what you think.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these projects and will try out the Ink Smoosh Technique. It’s very fun. Just be prepared for a different result every time you do it.

Flower Pot Fun with Window Box Thinlits

This card is created using the Window Box Thinlits Dies and Window Shopping Stamp Set. It was inspired by my sweet friend and customer, Rosanne who purchased the bundle and asked me to help her learn how to use these products. While the thinlits are designed to make a box, there are lots of fun things you can create with them. I wanted to show the versatility of this stamp set and bundle by showing both a card and box.

Here is the card we made at my July club events. This is also one of the July/August Free Card Kits customers receive with qualifying orders through my online store. For more details about my FREE Card Kit program click HERE.

While you can use a piece of designer series paper in behind this die cut shape, I wanted to make my own. I simply took a 3" x 3" piece of Watercolor Paper and did a watercolor wash over the surface using a variety of colors. In the card above and close up below, I used Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Real Red Ink Refills with an Aqua Painter to do my watercolor wash. I think this color combo looks really pretty with the Daffodil Delight and Old Olive ribbons.

I played around with other colors too and my club members even got to mess with some other ribbons too to make it their own. It was fun to see the different color combinations people came up with. In the close up below I used a Cherry Cobbler Ink Refills instead of the Real Red since I used the Cherry Cobbler ribbon for the "pot".

This is the pair of projects made by Erica at our club event. Since she made her little "air bow" with a piece of 1/8" Calypso Coral ribbon, she asked for some strips of Calypso Coral Cardstock to tie the colors together. I love how hers turned out and as a result I put out a bunch of cardstock strips in this color and Old Olive for people to play with if they wanted. It's so fun when people change up a project and make it their own!

So, I also showed my clubs how to make these little boxes using the Window Box Thinlits Dies. Everybody enjoyed seeing the versatility of this set of thinlits, especially Rosanne! As a little suprise, she got to take home the black box with silver glimmer paper. It's always easier to create something when you have a real live example. There are lots of videos on YouTube if you need some help making one of these boxes. That's how I learned and it was very helpful!

The video ahead includes step by step instructions for making the card shown in this post. If you watch it and find it useful, please give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing to my You Tube channel and/or share it with friends!

Thanks for spending some time with me today. I hope you enjoyed these projects and will come visit again soon! There is a complete supply list at the end of this post.

Have a great day and Happy Crafting!

Beach Scene with High Tide and Colorful Seasons

This card combines the High Tide Stamp Set with the Colorful Seasons Product Suite. This lovely beach scene just makes me feel calm when I look at it. This card was CASE'd from Pinterest, was one of the cards my clubs made in July and is also one of my FREE Card Kits for July and August. For more details about my FREE Card Kit program click HERE.

This card can be made with regular Whisper White cardstock, Shimmery White cardstock or Watercolor paper. The card shown here was created with regular Whisper White cardstock with a watercolor wash. I really wanted the crisp white look which is why I chose this paper. It's actually easier to do a watercolor wash on either the Shimmery White cardstock or Watercolor paper, which handle water much better. The Whisper White tends to pill up with too much water and the paper gets somewhat misshapen too. Despite those challenges my card still turned out just fine.

In the sample below I used Soft Suede ink for the grass but Crumb Cake looks really good too. Here's a close up so you can check out all the detail.

In my video tutorial ahead I used the Shimmery White cardstock and it's actually the perfect compromise for the color (it's close to a bright white) and how it handles water. It's hard to really see the difference in the video but if you have all three of these types of paper side by side, you can definitely see the difference. In addition, the Shimmery White cardstock has a beautiful, subtle shimmery sheen which makes it perfect for a beach scene!

For step by step instructions check out my video here:

I hope you've enjoyed this project. If you check out my video and you like it please give it a thumbs up, subscribe to my YouTube Channel and share it with friends. I would so appreciate it!!!

Daisies in Tranquil Tide with Pinewood Planks

This monochromatic card is made with one of the 2017-2019 In Colors, Tranquil Tide and the Delightful Daisy Suite by Stampin' Up! I love that this suite has a coordinating stamp set, punch and designer paper! This card was CASE'd from Pinterest, was one of the cards my clubs made in July and is also one of my FREE Card Kits for July and August. For more details about my FREE Card Kit program click HERE.

I really love this card but I think my favorite element is the daisies. I stamped the daisy image onto Watercolor Paper, punched it out and used my Aqua Painter to move and blend the color on the petals. Instead of having a discrete image with lines, my image is essentially colored in and looks more natural. I'm really not a big fan of coloring in simply because it takes a lot of time but this daisy was so quick and easy to create! This is my kind of coloring in!

Watch my YouTube Video ahead for all the details about this card. Plus... if you want all the parts and pieces cut and prepared for you check out my Free Card Kit Program by clicking HERE.

I hope you've enjoyed my project today! There's is a compete supply list below with links to my online store. Stay tuned for posts showing the other two July/August card kits coming in the next few days.

Color Fusers Blog Hop: August 2017

Welcome to the August Color Fusers Blog Hop featuring Powder Pink, Berry Burst, Basic Black, Smoky Slate and Whisper White. I created two cards for this months challenge, one which used all five colors and the second that only used four.

For these cards I used the Wood Words Stamps Set and the Lovely Words Thinlits paired with three additional sets of framelits for the layering. I love how the Lovely Words Thinlits can be paired with so many other framelits. Today I've used the Stiched Shapes Framelits, Layering Circles Framelits AND the Sweet and Sassy Framelits but they also coordinate with the Layering Ovals Framelits.

Here's how the focal piece was created:

  1. Using a piece of Powder Pink cardstock, die cut the "Hugs Circle" using the Lovely Words Thinlits with the largest circle in the Stiched Shapes Framelits. (photo below)
  2. Color over the whole surface of this die cut piece with a Clear Wink of Stella Brush.
  3. Die cut the largest scallop circle (from the Layering Circles Framelits) out of a piece of Basic Black Cardstock. Then using the second largest circle from the same set of dies, cut a circle out of the middle of the scallop circle. I did this so when I stamped and heat embossed in the next step my edge would be solid black and would not also be heat embossed.
  4. Rub an Embossing Buddy over the surface of the circle, stamp with the floral image from the Wood Words Stamp Set using Versamark ink and heat emboss with Clear Embossing Powder. Clean the floral image as this same stamp will be used with some other inks, for the background as well.
  5. Apply glue to the back of the Powder Pink die cut piece all over, using a Fine Tip Glue Pen.
  6. Place the heat embossed circle inside the scalloped edge circle, and lay the Powder Pink die cut piece (with the glue on the back) on top, to glue all three of these pieces together. Place a large acrylic block over the top to help adhere the three pieces together and set aside to dry.

Below is a close up of the focal piece where you can see both the clear embossing in the background and the Wink of Stella on the Powder Pink die cut piece.

For the background on this card I first sponged with the Powder Pink, Berry Burst and Smoky Slate Ink on Whisper White cardstock. Then I stamped the floral image from the Wood Words Stamp Set in THREE different ways and with TWO inks. In the close up below you can see all three ways.

Here are the three ways:
  1. Spray the stamp about three times with water and stamp over the sponged cardstock. Repeat this in three places. I call this "Water Stamping"... makes sense right? Here are a few links to other projects made with Water Stamping:
  2. Using Smoky Slate Ink stamp in three places on the sponged piece. Clean your stamp.
  3. Using Basic Black Archival Ink stamp in three places on the sponged piece.

A few additional details:
  • The Basic Black layer is raised up on dimensionals.
  • Four Rhinestone Jewels were added for a touch of bling.

This second card is similar to the first but is in fact simpler. I did not use the Smoky Slate color but just had to share because I love the way it turned out.

Here are some details and differences:
  • Watercolor paper was used here with a simple Watercolor Wash for the background. Berry Burst and Powder Pink were used for the wash. Click HERE to see a video of how to do a Watercolor Wash.
  • The floral image from the Wood Words Stamp Set were heat embossed with White Embossing Powder in three spots.
  • The focal piece was made using both the Lovely Words Thinlits and the Sweet and Sassy Framelits.
  • Clear Wink of Stella was used on the Powder Pink Die Cut piece as in the first project. You will be able to see this in the close up below.
  • Both the Basic Black layer and the heart are raised up on Stampin' Dimensionals.

I hope you've enjoyed these projects! This group always has some wonderful projects to share so don't miss a thing and hop along to the next blog. There is a complete list of blogs listed below plus a supply list, with links to my Online Store, in case you just have to have some of the products I've used today.

Team Make n' Take #1 for July Gathering

This card is made with the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set and the Background Bits Hostess Stamp Set and was one of the Make n' Takes for our July Team gathering. For this card I also followed the Sketch Challenge that my team used for the swaps. To check out all the swap cards click HERE to see that post. Using a sketch made the design process so simple and fun!

I had been playing around with the Color Smoosh Technique with my great friend Cindi and found that it made a great background for this focal point.

This technique is really simple and only requires a few supplies including, a silicone mat, a Spritzer with water, and some ink pads. I used Shimmery White Cardstock but you can also use Water color paper as well. In the photo below you can really see the shimmer. It’s so pretty!

The images are stamped in Basic Black Archival ink. Some images were stamped with full ink and others are stamped off. The focal piece is raised up on dimensionals. A few Rhinestone Jewels and a strip of Silver Glimmer paper were used to add a little bling!

How to do the Color Smoosh Technique:

  • Apply ink directly to the Silicone Mat by rubbing the edge of a few ink pads onto the Silicone Mat.
  • Place the ink as desired making sure not to contaminate your ink pads with ink that has already been applied to the Silicone Mat.
  • Spray the ink on the Silicone Mat till it beads up.
  • Place Shimmery White cardstock over the color and tap it down onto the ink with your fingers OR place a piece of scrap paper over the top and rub. Each will produce a slightly different look
  • There will be residual ink on the Silicone Mat. You can place another piece of Shimmer White cardstock over this ink and “press” again.
Here are some examples of several different “presses”.  Each one is totally unique which is one of the things I love about this technique!

I hope you've enjoyed this project and technique and will try it out. Please comment and let me know what you think. There's also a complete supply list ahead with links to my online store. Please let me know if you have questions or if I can help in any way. I'm here to help!
