Grunge It Up

I wanted to highlight one of the stamp sets from the Sale-A-Bration Catalogue.  This is the Any Occasion stamp set.  It is a banner style stamp set with several sentiments and combinations to cover most occasions.

Stampin’ Up is an American company and follows that clean and simple, American style.  However, I thought I would ‘grunge’ it up a bit as I felt that several of the stamps sets lend themselves to a more ‘British’ vintage look.

With this card I have used just one colour – Tip Top Taupe and Very Vanilla Cardstock.  I love the designer series paper the Stampin’ Up make, but I also love creating my own backgrounds – that’s the brilliance of stamping.  You can be as creative as you want (it took me a few years to get there, both in technique and confidence).

A second set from the Spring/Summer Occasions catalogue that jumped out at me as a set that could be used in several different styles was the ‘Lift me Up’.  The hot air balloon just shouted steampunk.  Steampunk is a style that mixes Victoriana and technology, therefore it can be quite dark, moody, with lots of metallic embellishments.  This card is one we did for our last workshop, with a matching tag.

I hope you can see from these examples that you can use the stamp sets to fit any style that you like, not just the clean and simple ‘American’ style.
