Holidays With A Twist - My First Hop!
Welcome to my stop along the hop, I am so excited to have been invited to join this wonderful group of ladies and cannot wiat to see what they have created. The theme for this months hop is Holidays with a Twist, meaning create something for the holidays using everyday stamp sets/tools. This was meant to be, anyone who knows me knows I LOVE the holidays my two favourite are Halloween & Christmas. Is it any wonder my favourtie movie is Nightmare before Christmas..

When I got my invitation I was working on a Christmas in July Card Class and had just completed a great summer card using some christmas stamps in an unconventional way. I used the Christmas Pines set to create my palm trees.

For this Hop I created two cards one that had a more Halloween feel to it and another for the Chiristmas/Holiday season.

Since Halloween comes first let’s explore this card first. This was created using my new woodland embossing folder and sponge brayers to create this magical background. First, I used my brayer to cover my whisper white card stock with Crushed Curry then I masked off the moon before continuing with my next two brayer layers. For the next two layers make sure you start off of you card stock at the top of your paper. For the second layer blend pumpkin pie a little over half way down from the top and then bring your Rich Razzleberry from the top just down to the bottom of the moon concentrating more on the top portion of the moon. Once you are happy with your sky coloring it is time to unveil your moon and remove the mask with the edge of my brayer I sploshed a little pumpkin pie over the moon to give it some depth. now it is time to emboss the trees. Place your cardstock so that the colored side is facing the side of your folder that says sizzix but be mindful of which way your trees branches go or you will end up with an upside-down landscape, which come to think of it may look amazingly spooky for Halloween. If you have the folder in front of you the wood sizzix will look like it is upside down and your moon will be furthest away from you. sponge Soft Suede very lightly over the raised trees taking care not to press to hard. For a little pop I added the black back with my Fox Builder Punch and a copper heat embossed sentiment form Glamper Greetings. You will find a full supply list at the end.

This Christmas card came together fairly easily in my mind what I was not expecting was how long it would take to decide on what type of ribbon and bow I felt was right. To all those Type A OCD crafters out there you know what I am talking about. If looks nice but nothing quite screamed at you "THAT'S IT!" until I got the suggestion to use the same bakers twine I had already used (to over a smudge) sometime the greatest ideas come from the need to cover something you do not like. I seen my inspiration for this card on Pinterest and waited patiently for my new background stamp to arrive as far as I am concerned the new music notes background stamp is really the star of the show for this card. I wanted a more distressed look so I lightly rubbed some crumb cake over my whisper white cardstock before I stamped the music notes it worked out wonderfully. I wanted a bit of a thicker feel for the tree so I stamped it twice once with Always Artichoke and then again with Garden Green the final touch was some wink of Stella and it was perfect. For the sentiment, I cut a banner from a crap piece of cardstock and distressed it again with crumb cake and stamped it with a sentiment from Oh What Fun in real red. The banner was popped up with dimensionals to finish it off. You will find a full supply list at the end.

I would also like to say a very happy 15th birthday to my wonderful daughter today. I am currently with her at The CNBTA Canadian Championships and World Qualifiers. Wishing her and all CNBTA athletes a very wonderful weeked. Good Luck Girls! From then to now you have grown into a very talented and wonderful young lady and I love you with all my heart cannot wait to see you take on the world and achieve your dreams.
